Caribbean Stud Poker is an innovative Poker variation that can be found at almost every land-based casino and online gambling venue. Basics and gameplay rules of Caribbean Stud Poker
Caribbean Stud Poker is highly popular among Poker players, all thanks to its simplicity and easiness in terms of gameplay rules. Caribbean Stud Poker involves the usage of a standard deck of 52 cards. The gameplay requires players to make a decision in a hand or opt to fold. In case you opt to fold, your ante wager (a mandatory bet that all players need to place) is left back on the table.
When playing Caribbean Stud Poker, the dealer must qualify for the hand by getting at least an Ace King. If in case the dealer doesn’t qualify, the player wins even money on their ante wager. However, if the dealer gets an Ace King or higher, the player must beat the dealer’s hand in order for them to get paid. In the second scenario, the payout depends on the strength of the player’s hand.
Caribbean Stud Poker gameplay explained
As mentioned earlier, the game Caribbean Stud Poker makes use of a standard 52-card deck. Before every deal, players need to make the initial bet (Ante) on the table. Just like Double Bonus Poker and 3 Card Poker, some Caribbean Stud Poker games also allow you to make an additional wager on the “Bonus” box. The wager amount for the bonus bet is usually 1/5th of the table minimum, but we suggest you check the game rules to be sure about it.
Once done with shuffling the cards, the dealer says “No more bets” and doesn’t accept any bets after that. Then the dealing of the cards takes place from left to right. The dealing process continues until each player receives five cards face down. The dealer also deals five cards to themselves and ends the dealing process by turning their last card face up. It’s worth noting that the dealing procedures may differ at Caribbean Stud Poker tables that make use of an electronic “shoe”.
After dealing the cards, every player takes a look at their hand and decides what betting option they wish to go with. The available wagering options include:
Fold – Put simply, to fold means to forfeit your initial wager and the bonus wager.
Raise – To raise means to place a wager that’s double the size of your initial bet.
Buy another card to improve your hand – Here, you discard a card from your hand by putting it face down and placing an amount that’s equal to your initial wager on it. After this, you place a wager that doubles your initial bet in the “Raise” box.
The dealer takes your cards as well as your wager amount. Also, they collect the bonus if you’ve wagered on it. When playing at land-based tables, the dealer burns the first card from the card deck and deals you another card. Once you’re done with betting and the buy cards have been dealt, the dealer turns their cards so that everyone can see their hand.
After this, the hands are compared and the one who has a strong hand wins the game. Caribbean Stud Poker payouts
When playing Caribbean Stud Poker, players having a stronger hand than that of the dealer receive a 1:1 on their Ante. But if in case the dealer qualifies, you’ll only receive 1:1 on your “Play” amount.
Interestingly, Caribbean Stud Poker offers you the chance to receive more than 1:1 on your “Play” wager. If you receive a hand that’s two pairs or better, the potential payouts are as follows:
- Two pair pays 2 to 1
- Three of a kind pays 3 to 1
- Straight pays 4 to 1
- Flushes pay 5 to 1
- Full boats pay 7 to 1
- Quads are paid at 20 to 1
- Straight flushes pay 50 to 1
- Royal flush pays 100 to 1
Note that these bets are paid only if the following criteria are met:
- The dealer gets a qualifying hand.
- Your hand manages to beat the dealer’s hand.
Keep in mind that unlike other online video poker games, Caribbean Stud Poker doesn’t feature any standalone wager that pays irrespective of the result. The only exception to this is the progressive jackpot.
